Gresham Information

Gresham is the 4th largest city in Oregon with a population of about 100,000 people. The city is located in Multnomah County, Oregon, and is located immediately east of Portland.

The city of Gresham was named for the American Civil War general, and Postmaster General, Walter Quinton Gresham.  Many locals will tell the story of how the original residents could not establish itself as a city until a local storeowner offered to use his store as a post office.

He offered to name the city after Postmaster General Walter Q. Gresham if a post office was granted. Until that time, the city had simply been known as "Campground"  because this location was where pioneers often stopped to spend the night and compose themselves before moving on to Portland and the Willamette Valley.
